What is pastel?

There are two main types of pastel; Soft pastel and oil pastel. I use soft pastels.

Soft pastels come in pastel pencils, pastel sticks and pan pastels.

There is a large selection in colors and different degrees of hardness and softness.

 

​I build up a pastel drawing layer by layer, from dark to light. The paper I use is of good quality and is called Pastelmat paper.​

 

Pastel drawings should be framed with passepartout and a glass frame, so that the drawing is best preserved and does not rub off.
